NATIONAL TRENDS AND SERVICES

Silver Spring (MD) Chapter

The National Trends and Services facet is dedicated to eliminating disparities and reducing barriers to essential services through leadership, education, and advocacy. This facet fosters sustainable programs through community empowerment and partnerships that address the most pressing social, economic, and civic challenges. Our goals include expanding measurable programs, strengthening collaborative partnerships, and extending outreach to communities with the greatest need, ensuring that we continue to uplift and support underserved populations.

One of the chapter’s long-standing priorities is combating food insecurity, a critical issue affecting residents across Montgomery County, particularly college students. Food insecurity not only impacts health but also hinders academic performance and retention rates. Chapter members assemble baskets filled with nutritious food items to serve a family of four. These packages also contain paper products, cutlery, information on healthy eating and a gift card for the purchase of a meat or poultry item.

In addition to addressing basic needs, our chapter is deeply committed to voter outreach and advocacy to protect and advance the best interests of our community. Through voter registration drives, education initiatives, and civic engagement efforts, we empower residents to exercise their right to vote and advocate for policies that promote equity and justice. By ensuring that individuals have access to information about elections, voter rights, and policy issues, we strengthen civic participation and community representation, reinforcing our mission to drive positive social change.

We are dedicated to supporting families in need and fostering a spirit of generosity. Through our advocacy, service initiatives, and partnerships, we remain steadfast in our commitment to cultivate resilient, informed, and empowered communities.
