Silver Spring (MD) Chapter
The Links’ commitment to the arts can be traced to our cultured co-founder, Margaret Roselle Hawkins, whose innate artistic talent earned her a four-year scholarship to the Women’s School of Design, later known as the Moore Institute of Art. Her passion for creative expression led to her appointment as an art teacher and laid the foundation for The Arts facet, officially established in 1964 at the 14th National Assembly. Today, The Links, Incorporated continues to create and support opportunities that educate minority youth in the arts, elevate creative expression, and provide platforms for accomplished professional artists across diverse disciplines. Our goal is to increase and expand arts programming, integrate the arts into education, and spark an arts renaissance that enriches our communities.
The Silver Spring (MD) Chapter demonstrates its commitment to arts education by actively engaging students in cultural arts activities that foster a deep appreciation for creative expression and learning. Our platforms allow for students to give voice to their experiences and perspectives, offering both an empowering experience for them and an eye-opening insight for us. The national signature program, “Classics Through the Ages,” allows our chapter to provide exemplary student artists with opportunities to hone their talents, receive recognition, and gain support for their educational and career aspirations.
The Arts facet, cultivates the next generation of creative visionaries and reinforces the enduring impact of The Links, Incorporated in the arts.
